5352 Instructional Leadership Reflections

Week 5.2: Write brief Reflections and Status Report of your technology skills and knowledge gained in this course, your progress with your Campus-Supervised Internship Activities, and your progress with your Action Research Project.

During the course 5352 Instructional Leadership, I had the opportunity to enhance my knowledge and skills regarding technology.  Also, I had the opportunity to work on a team to develop these skills and participate in effective collaboration.  The opportunity in this class has allowed me to use collaboration and be exposed to others ideas.  I wish that the classes had been structured with more collaboration of this type throughout the Masters program.  I have enjoyed the opportunity to form collegial relationships that I may be able to utilize as a principal.  Also, I enjoyed the use of google drive.  I have learned a great deal and have recently created multiple forms, another google site, and will use the google document in my classroom and as a principal.  I have found that the course has allowed me to explore this resource in a way of doing not just listening or hearing about the resource offered.  I typically learn more through this type of experience and I feel I will be better prepared to promote technology on my campus.

My Campus-Supervised Internship Activities are almost completed.  I have worked to complete these activities throughout the 2012-2013 school year.  This next school year I feel I will be able to finish the rest of my internship within the first month of school starting.  Once I have each item complete, I will continue to reflect the on my experience on the campus-supervised log.  I am looking forward to finishing these with our new Principal on our campus.  I believe having a new principal will enhance my experience and internship as I finish the program.

My Action Research Project was completed May 2013, but I have not completed the paper.  I have had the opportunity to collect all literature to prepare for the literary review, and have spent time organizing all the data that will be needed for the completion of the writing assignment.  However, I need to find time to start writing the actual paper for the research project.  I will be completing this assignment in the next couple of weeks as I will have more time to write.  I am a little concerned about the format as I have heard that there are several formats that are floating around and many students are confused of the exact format to follow.  However, I plan on communicating with my advisor to find the correct information regarding this so I can complete the assignment as soon as possible.

5352 Webcast Reflection

During Instructional Leadership 5352, we had the opportunity to participate in web conferences as part of student engagement and development.  I reviewed the material covered for most of the web conferences, since I could not attend due to scheduling issues.  The first web conference had technical difficulties that resulted in the web conference ending before there could be an in-depth discussion.  I attending the following web conference on July 31st.  This web conference had a few issues, but Dr. Benavides changed the format so we could discuss via the messaging window.  The July 31st web conference was held by Dr. Benavides, and he spent time reviewing the weeks expectations and assignment at the beginning of the web conference.  After the basic topics were covered regarding the weeks assignment the Dr. Benavides spent time asking a series of questions related to Web 2.0 tools.  Also, he took time to dive further through this discussion to address and reflect about the technology our school has and or may have.  He was able to provide an opportunity to reflect as an educator what our role may look like as a principal.  Through this open discussion and style of questioning I gained a great deal of insight as a result.  I enjoyed the opportunity to reflect and Dr. Benavides led us to these conclusions and reflections.

The overall format of web conferences have been beneficial for some courses and others they have not been helpful.  I believe the interaction and questioning I experienced during the web conference in 5352 provided the opportunity for reflection.  The reflection gave me an opportunity to consider the tools that would be available to staff.  Also, this reflection allowed for insight regarding how to motivate staff to use the available resources on campus to create purpose and passion on your campus.
